NHS Flu Vaccination 2026/27: Who Is Eligible?

The NHS offers a free flu jab to those most at risk of serious illness. For 2026/27, eligibility is split into two phases:

From 1 September 2026

• Pregnant women

From 1 October 2026

• Children aged 2 or 3 years (on or before  31 August 2026)
• Adults aged 65 years and over
• Individuals aged 2 to under 65 in clinical risk groups, which includes:
  
  
  • Conditions affecting breathing (e.g. asthma requiring a steroid inhaler, COPD, cystic fibrosis)
  • Heart, kidney, or liver disease
  • Diabetes
  • Neurological conditions
  • A weakened immune system
    
    
• Individuals experiencing homelessness
• Residents in long-stay residential care homes
• Carers in receipt of Carer’s Allowance, or the main carer for an elderly or disabled person
• Close contacts of immunocompromised individuals
• Frontline social care workers without employer-led occupational health cover

NHS COVID-19 Vaccination Autumn 2026: Who Is Eligible?

The autumn 2026 COVID-19 vaccination programme is expected to begin from 1 October 2026. Eligible groups include:

• Adults aged 75 years and over
• Residents in care homes for older adults
• People aged 6 months and over who are immunosuppressed (as defined in the NHS COVID-19 Green Book)

Where possible, the NHS encourages people eligible for both vaccines to receive them at the same appointment making it quicker and more convenient.

Can I Get Both Vaccines at the Same Time?

Yes  and the NHS actively encourages it. If you’re eligible for both the flu and COVID-19 vaccines, getting them together at the same visit is safe, effective, and saves you time. Ask our team about co-administration when you come in.

The practice will contact eligible patients by telephone or text message to arrange an appointment.
